Christmas is on it’s way and Charleston is getting ready…

Sometimes, for a girl from the Chicago Christmas in the South is a little strange. 60 and 70 degree weather is practically like Christmas in the Bahamas compared to growing up in snow drifts and frostbite. Still, there are benefits to having Christmas in a place that “stays pretty green”. The Farmers Market down at Marion Square Park is open every weekend and the final week before Christmas from 5-10pm, selling crepes, coffee, and lots of great Christmas presents made by local artists. The festive music is sometimes a bit too much, but the Christmas spirit is right on. (although the other day I heard an accordion player who was pretty great). The Christmas parade on the 4th of December and the Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park are also some things to get you into the holiday mood. Our very own Justin Everritt will be floating by in the parade reeking of barbecue and waving like the prom queen.

Here at the hostel we are having our first ever Christmas together and planning to deck all our halls in hopes of bringing peace on earth and joy to men and women. We are having a book drive through both December and January to send some books (especially textbooks) to some libraries in need across the world. So if you have a donation, bring it by. We hope you can join us for a cup of holiday cheer, if you’re lucky maybe even a Christmas cookie or two.

See you soon.
