The NotSo Hostel consists of an
enclave of three classic Charleston
houses built in the 1840s-- all with
inviting double porches oriented to
catch the sea breeze.
The NotSo Hostel enjoys a huge
amount of community support and
has been warmly welcomed into its
neighborhood since its birth two years
ago.
The hostel offers (fully air-conditioned)
dorm and private rooms with shared
bathrooms and kitchens. Most of the
private rooms are off the street in the
middle house; the dorms are in the
large house up front.
There are spacious common areas: a
lounge with high speed internet
and wireless access, couches, games, books, a stereo and TV; porches with
hammocks and
flowers; a fully-stocked kitchen with
basic cooking needs (sugar, flour, oil
etc) occasional free food; a
coin operated laundry facility; and a
large back yard complete with
palmetto trees, cats, and a vegetable
garden.
NotSo Hostel is within walking
distance of downtown attractions,
easily accessible from the highways
and interstate that cross this area, and
bus lines also within walking distance.
Whaddaya mean, 'NotSo Hostel?'
Well, let's start by saying that puns are
never as funny if you have to explain
them:
In a sweet Southern drawl (that
famous twang with which some folk
are so endowed) and in many other
American dialects, the words 'hostile'
and 'hostel' are homonyms; that is,
they're said the exact same way. A
NotSo Hostel is not so hostile as your
regular ol' hostel, see? Our motto at
the NotSo might be 'just so long as
you're comfortable.'
So kick back on a hammock and think
about summertime.
